Food processors are among the helpful kitchen equipment that many homeowners rely on. However, despite the convenience that they give, cleaning this kitchen equipment can be quite tricky.

Cleaning the food processor can be a job that most homeowners put off, because it can be quite tiresome. Nonetheless, don’t let this keep you from using it, especially in preparing healthy dishes for you and your family. But how do you keep your food processors clean? What are some of the tips and tricks to take note of? Below is a simple and quick guide on how to clean your food processor:

1. Safety First

The discs of your food processor are sharp, and it is important to make sure that your fingers stay safe while you are cleaning it. This also includes the other attachments found on your processor. Make sure your scrub the blades gently, and ensure that no sharp parts of the equipment are exposed once you’ve finished washing it.

2. Use The Dishwasher

To make it easier for you, you can use a dishwasher to clean your food processor. However, make sure that you don’t include the base the holds the motor. You can pop the lid, stopper, and the bowl into your dishwasher to save time and energy. Nonetheless, make sure that you still read the manual and throw in only the parts that are dishwasher safe.

3. Use A Cleaning Brush

To make sure that you get rid of the food residue that can get stuck on various edges and places of your processor, you can use a small cleaning brush to scrub it off.

Parts That Need Regular Cleaning

Make sure that you wash the following parts of your food processor after every use:

The Blades

It is important to wash the blades of your food processor after every use. This is so that you can avoid crusted-on food. However, make sure that you scrub the blades from the center, so that you won’t accidentally cut yourself. Always exercise precaution when cleaning the blades of your food processor.  Refrain from putting in the blades inside your dishwasher as the hot water can damage them over time.

The Lid and Body

To clean your food processor’s container or body, you can add in some dishwashing liquid to the bottom. After that, you can fill in the container body with warm water. Put in the lid and then run your food processor for some seconds. This will clean your food processor and get rid of food residue that may have been stuck inside. After that, rinse out the soapy water and then scrub your lid and container after.

Tips for Deep Cleaning

Aside from regular washing, your food processor also needs to undergo thorough cleaning every now and then. If you already notice a weird smell coming from your food processor, then this might indicate the growth of mold. To get rid of this, you can soak your food processor’s container and blades in a solution of water and baking soda for approximately fifteen minutes. After that, rinse the parts thoroughly.
